Law enforcement officers from Gaston County annually support Special Olympics by participating in the Law Enforcement Officers' Torch Run. The 14-mile trek through Gaston County starts on West Franklin Boulevard at the Gastonia city limits and ends at the Gaston-Mecklenburg County line where officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg take over. The Torch Run is held annually in the month of May.

Participants of the 2009 Law Enforcement Officers' Torch Run that was held on May 22 pose for a group photograph at the end of the 14-mile trek through Gaston County. More than 40 people participated in this year's event. Thanks to the Belmont Police Department, Gastonia Police Department, Gaston County Police Department and the Gaston County Sheriff's Office for providing security for the runners as they ran down U.S. 74.

Support Special Olympics

Purchase a disc containing more than 350 photographs from the 2009 Law Enforcement Officers' Torch Run in Gaston County. The cost is $5 with proceeds going to the Gaston County Lodge's Special Olympics Fund.
